After viewing this lecture, the participant will be able to:
• Understand the pathways of thyroid hormone synthesis and the physiologic roles of thyroid hormone in the fetus and neonate
• Understand how thyroid function and thyroid hormone levels change during the transition from intrauterine to extrauterine life
• Understand the diagnosis and management of congenital hypo- and hyperthyroidism
