Program Overview |
|
This presentation discusses the general management of neonatal infections. The common bacteria and the standard therapy is covered as well as resistant bacteria and those therapies that are typically reserved for these issues. Topics that are specific to the antibiotics (dosing, monitoring, and adverse effects) are also discussed. |

Nurses providing care to pre-term infants. |

Learning Objectives |
|
- Describe the common gram-positive infections in the NICU and the available antibiotics used to treat them.
- Describe the common gram negative pathogens encountered in the NICU and what are the most appropriate antibiotics to treat them.
- Describe the general treatment of neonatal meningitis and what pathogens should be anticipated as well as what antibiotics should be used.
